General Discussion / Re: 1969 Z hood stampings/dates markings locations
« on: October 23, 2008, 06:32:35 PM »
Thanks, before I started to rip off the hood insulation on my car I thought I would ask first. I see that my cars  hood had hood pins at some time and were welded and filled later on. The third owner said it had pins when he owned it and that was in the late 80's to early 90's SO??????. I will check tonight my car is a 08C car build actually built 8th 9th or 10th of August 1969, 08B was skipped.

I am sure the buyer of this car will be seeking further inspection of the car in the near future to find the truth at hand especially after paying 125 plus for the car, we will all have to exercise some patients and the truth should come out in the end.   I feel the price paid is on the high side, but if the car is in fact real then the values of our Z28's are still on the rise.  A friend of mine was there and saw the car as well and the car is gorgeous.  I did eat some popcorn last night while watching the thread to be honest.   Good for CRG and all it does. A great site!!

If you were mistaken and this is all a joke, then I hope you were smart enough to not list your real phone number in a earlier post!  I knew this was going to get good or should I say BAD.

Research Topics & Reports / Re: 69 decklid emblem holes

Hey Kurt or John or anyone we know that my car was built around the 8th or 9th of August 1969 by the last six of the vin. Is there anyway to tell why my Z28 has a different lid? or how can I tell a date.  All previous owners do not remember there being a camaro script emblem on the deck lid.  Any ideas ??????????    Maybe they used older lids or whatever they could find when they extended production for the 1969 model in August

My friend is going to lend me a camera to see if we can get pics of my pad as well while the motor is in the car, it seams like a few numbers are always not there because of the uneven and rough pad area. Thanks for posting the pics so i can compare my findings to yours. I can see 19N_ _  2077,  the complete code should be 19N672077.  The last seven is hard to see, but the 207 is very clear. I cleaned the pad free of all paint then used crayom to fill in the numbers, then brushed with a toothbrush.

Originality / Re: NAT MFG marking on fender ???
« on: September 30, 2008, 06:44:18 PM »
Hey John I was looking under my car last week and noticed some markings that say GM in white crayon or white pencil they are about 3" tall and do not know if they were there all along or added. I think the drivers fender says GM3 I would have to look again. They are placed low on the inners in front of the wheels. Did you get the email I sent you.

Found the partial vin stamping by using a yellow crayon to rub the area by the oil filter where I could see a slight trace of a number or two, then brushed away excess crayon and it show the partial vin nicely. It matches up with my car.  Thanks for all the help CRG!!

General Discussion / Re: DZ BLOCK NUMBERS HELP
« on: September 28, 2008, 01:06:44 AM »
I used a yellow crayon and applied 2 heavy layers and then used a firm tooth brish and brushed away the excess crayon and was able to see the the whole partial vin stampings minus 2 numbers of the vin. The 1 9 N and the last 4 numbers of the vin sequence number showed up nice.  My pad was paint free and very clean before i did this and themotor is still in the car.  I was almost ready to give up untill i saw an older post where someone recommended this method.

My car is a 08C cowl date and the original owner picked up the car from the dealer around teh 21st of August 1969.  The motor is V0629DZ stamping on the front pad. All previuos owners stated that the motor was original to thecar but not the trans.    Jerry said that it was not possible to have that large of a spread between the engine build and the cars build, but i would have to think that funky things could have happened since my car was built right when the production was continued because of the unexpected delay of the 1970 model.

Hard to see but is there. the yellow crayon worked!!!!!!!!!!

I  was reading an older post a few weeks ago on how to use a bright colored crayon  and  rub the area by the oil filter with it then scrub lightly and remove the excess crayon to reveal the partial vin.  It worked great!    I cleaned the area with acetone first a few times to remove all paint and was still not able to see anything. Then I tried this method.  The first attemp with the crayon exposed a N and a 2.  Then I worked the crayon on the area agiain where I saw the numbers and put it on very heavy then took my time with a new tooth brush and was able to make out 1 9 N and 5 out of the 6 numbers of the vin sequential number.  The motor is in the car and I was told it would be impossible to see the numbers with out the motor out of the car. i would recommend this method to anyone who has not been able to read there partial vin on late 1969 cars.

Also this helps prove that a March 29th build DZ 302 can be original to a early August build car.  My car is a 08C car and could have been built during the second or third week since 08B was skipped.   I also talked witha few people who suggested that because productionwas not extended yet dealers were not getting many orders for Z28's with expectation of thge new 1970 Z28.
