General Discussion / Re: luggage rack
« on: September 01, 2012, 03:40:38 PM »
There was a time (early 70's) when I used to see a lot of them even seen them on early second gens. but I haven't seen one in years. Have no idea on the value.

General Discussion / Re: Do trim tag and VIN line up

OOoops!   "Oldzimers" moment,  been checking out 2 different cars at same time.  Got confused.

I understand easy to do, I just wanted to make sure I was correct on the Hugger orange, my mind isn't what it once was.

anyone ever seen a firewall that looks like that?  The hole for the heater box looks way to large to me.

the car was originally Garnet Red.

Why do you say garnet red? The paint code on the trim tag is 72 which is Hugger orange IIRC.

One thing I noticed in the photos is the hole where the heater box/cover goes. That doesn't look factory to me, it looks why too large: anyone know what is up with that?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Northern CA 68' Z/28... Real?

Mine measures about 2 1/2 inches from the leading edge of the front fender. Mine is a Norwood car but that shouldn't make a difference.

General Discussion / what distributor to use
« on: June 23, 2012, 10:52:16 PM »
I want to get my 68 Z engine put together and running but I not been able to find a date correct distributor for it. While I'm waiting to find the correct one what distributor should I run?  I have seen re-stamps, or other stock Chevy Distributors for other engines, L48, L79 etc. or after market. Any input from those of you running 302's would be appreciated.

Thanks

Maybe this will help someone reunite there car and engine. I'm not sure if it is a re-stamp or not but hopefully it will help someone.

General Discussion / Re: fire wall on a heater delete car
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:00:45 AM »
thanks everyone. So it sounds like this car has had the firewall cut at sometime for some reason. It's a clean cut but nothing like my 68 or any other first gen I have seen.

General Discussion / fire wall on a heater delete car
« on: March 12, 2012, 12:06:24 AM »
I have found what the owner claims is a heater delete 69 SS396. The fire wall looks strange to me as it has a large hole where the normal heater box and blower motor is found. Does this sound correct? I don't understand why there would be a large hole be he claims that is the way they came. Can anyone confirm this?

And then come the 70 1/2 camaro back then the CEO's must have thought a change was what they needed, kinda like 58 Chevy a one year deal. Like a 69 . Anyway almost twice as many 69 for sale all the time. I often wonder what a 69 would have looked like if they didn't can it after 1 year. Was there a concept?

I read somewhere I and I don't remember what book it was or how much truth was to it but; It stated that the 69 was originally was supposed to run two years (remember that was kind of the run of a car back then) but that the new Mustang was cutting deep into 69 Camaro sales so they rushed the 1970 which was supposed to be a 71 into production. They made more 69's than the other first gens but they had another 4 or 5 months of production I wonder how many would have been built had production stopped at the end of a normal production year?

All in all I do love all first gens and there are cool things about each of them and I wish I had a 69 in my collection, but I won't give up my LeMans blue 68 Z  or my 1970 RS/SS 396 to get one.

I think it has to do with the one year only body style of the 69, and maybe to some extent the cowl induction hood. (even though most didn't have it from the factory).  But back in 69 the 69 Z sold so well as we all know because the 68 Z kicked butt on the race track. So don't get too down on owning a 68 Z/28 it is still the best LOL

General Discussion / where to get a 30-30 cam
« on: February 25, 2012, 04:45:49 PM »
I did a search for this and didn't turn up much so I'm hoping someone can answer. Where can I get a 30-30 cam for my 68 Z?  Do any of the aftermarket manufactures (crain, comp, et) make a dead on replacement? Or anyone with NOS cams? I have checked places such as Heartbeat City and others but as of yet have not turned up anything.
Thanks

General Discussion / Re: 69 L78 Question
« on: February 20, 2012, 07:01:44 PM »
Thanks Ed that makes more since. I knew that they made 427 turbo 400 cars and it seemed weird that L78 cars wouldn't come a auto trans.

General Discussion / Re: Thinking About Buying a Parts Car?!?
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:41:06 PM »
Out where I'm at I haven't seen a first gen in a salvage yard in 16 or 17 years.  The last one I seen was a nice 68 6cyl car with a column shift PG. Car was white with a red interior in good restoration condition it was complete and ran although it smoked. I tried to buy it but they wouldn't sell it. I was working on a 69 RS at the time and thought the 68 would make a nice economical driver.  I went back a week later with cash in hand to try and buy it again but they had crushed it.
