General Discussion / Re: BLOCK CAST DATE VS PAD STAMP DATE
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:55:24 AM »
this is interesting history...   :)

How long did it take to ship the engine to the assembly plant?  Does anyone have any photos of the S&H?

Just so I am clear... the block stamp is the complete engines assembly date, correct? ...or is it the short block???

Why we are on this subject... how long did it take to ship the frame, rears axle and trans to the assembly plant?

i would assume... (there is that word again, LOL) that all the components were sent palatalized and the pallet did not leave until it was a full pallet... assuming this then the pallet would have older and more recent engines being sent at one time .  Can anyone shine some light on this?

you can still have a lot of fun with it even though it is not an original SS...

the 327 cars were still pretty fast and a lot of fun to drive...

with a little bit of tuning and/or some modifications ... you can have one very fast Camaro

... and not original really means you can modify it however you like...drive it all the time... etc...  ;D

and don't forget... it is still a Camaro...  a Great looking car     ;)

Thanks everyone.. you all have given me some great tips and this advice is just what I needed to help me...
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have the homework you all have provided me.. ha ha ha .. I just need to review it all

As for the size...  I sure would like to go bigger but I am limited by the septic system...

(my health district requires a minimum of ten feet away from the system... I have a dispersion line that is limiting the depth..)  ???

I will post here when I get the garage going when the time comes...

BTW   -     ;D   Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all my Car brothers and their families out there... ;D

General Discussion / building a garage
« on: December 20, 2012, 11:14:52 AM »
This might not be the place but... here goes

I am considering building a 3 car garage... soon...  any advice???

I am considering a 3 car where two bays are open and high enough to accommodate lifts... 3rd bay with above storage space..

i am thinking of 3500 psi concrete floor, 36x24

garage height is limited to only 1.5 stories high...

Any ideas on cost /SF for some thing like this?

What size garage doors would you recommend?

What Lifts would you recommend and why?

Any advice on climate control, insulation, frost protection etc....  here in New England we need to go 42" down below the frost line...

something like this I think...

...maybe I should be thinking of moving south to warmer weather... LOL   ;D  GI Joe

« on: December 18, 2012, 12:25:46 PM »
Anyone know anything about converting a 68 RS fender to a standard fender?  (lots of kits and info the otherway...)

My friend has a used set of RS fenders but has a standards Camaro and is stuck... is it possible to convert them to standard use and/or is it worth doing or better off re-selling them???

thanks

Restoration / Re: Floor pans
« on: December 16, 2012, 08:13:59 PM »
thanks for the advice guys ... I am really trying to save the floor but when I add up all the issues it may be better to replace it.  I too was thinking of going to a local supplier (for time and S&H savings) as well...  I will go there to see it prior to purchasing now that you have made me aware of these differences... thanks guys it means a lot to have good car buddies helping out   ;)

Anyone have experience with who has the best full after market floor pan?

I was looking at Steve's Camaro's Floor pan made by Dyna-core and it has the brackets and appears to look correct...

Matts has this one:

any advice anyone can provide is as always much appreciated by this old guy...LOL

I scraped the idea of using the 69 firebird frame and its up for sale.

I bought a very clean frame from out west...but its a 69 frame... so I have not got to the point of what is involved to make it correct for the 68...if that is possible...

Can anyone suggest what tool to get to remove BB springs??? I found several coil spring compressors at sears website but they all seem a bit weak for BB springs...
