Well I do have an opinion on this one. Still a large portion of the Pro Mod and Top Sportsman cars are 63 split windows. Its something that in 2021 you can go 220 mph in a 1963 body style. They got it right. Granted they are aftermarket stretched, widened bodies and chassis but still 80% correct to the original body. With that being said I did destroy a nice 63 roadster at the Atlanta NHRA divisional. Not much left of that car. Pic attached for your viewing pleasure......

Wow, I hate to see that!

I'm a big fan of Cobra's. I built a kit car in the 90's because of that. They are beautiful, but in a different way. But honestly, to me the styling of a 427 is that of a 289 on steroids. No new cutting edge design. Now the Daytona Coupe is another thing. That is a real beauty! If only the rear was more stylish, but it's design purpose was racing and it did that well because of the kammback styling.

I agree, the Corvette is a better looking design. Funny that the Cobra could have been powered by Chevy instead, but Chevrolet declined Shelby's offer. I don't feel too sorry for Shelby though....it still turned out pretty good for him.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Alternator/Water Pump dates

Water pumps are installed during engine assembly and generally dated close to that. Probably no more than a month prior, but could be within a day or two.

I have only been to the Camaro Nationals in Frederick one time. It seemed to me that Saturday is the best day to see it because of attendance. I agree that if you can do both shows that weekend, you should.

That's all I got!  LOL!  When I started my research I had no idea that this many 1967 Camaro contests took place.  It's amazing what you can find when you start digging.

Please share your recollections if a family member, friend, co-worker, neighbor or even yourself participated in or even won one of these contests.

Separate threads will also be created for 1968 and 1969 model year Camaro contests.  Stay tuned.

Crazy how many there were! Thanks for taking the time to do this for the rest of us to enjoy!

I prefer the ride of oil filled shocks for a pleasure car, and gas shocks for more of a performance use.

I have no personal experience, but the concerns that I have heard of are; poor valving and leaks leading to failure. I'm not sure if they are meant for everyday use or just for show/judging.

Take a Camaro Command Drive Promotion

"250 Cincinnati buyers will have their cars built to exact spec at Norwood plant.  These custom built Camaros, each bearing a personalized name plate, will be delivered at a luncheon and plant tour."

Great stuff! I also was surprised that not all of them were stripped down models. I'm confused about the line quoted above. It appears they were not give away cars, but some other type of promotion? Sorry if I missed that in another part of the thread.

Look forward to seeing whatever else you come up with Scott!

I don't see any reason that Chevrolet would build that along with the Corvette.

That has the upside down 'AC-Made In USA  12 Volt ' stamping. These are now a reproduction and sell for around $25.

Mike

Great point, I forgot about that.

So is the 11B on the trim tag a Fisher date and the official production date a GM date?

Yes, 11B is the week of Nov (2nd week) that Fisher anticipated starting the body assembly. For whatever reason, whether it was bad information, delay, order volume or other issues, your car was started much later. My guess would be more like 11D. The production timeframe was about four days or seven shifts. That information is found in this excellent report by JohnZ; http://www.camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml

As I understand it, the production date indicated on your NCRS letter should be the date that Chevrolet reported that final assembly was complete. The attached article link covers the entire process; I think it is a must read if you are at all interested in how the processes worked.
