I remember when we built a few 1979 Camaros for the California Highway Patrol and when they were coming down the assembly line, I talked with one of the UAW committee representatives about the cars.  The Carmaros were a big hit with the officers and I remember when one passed me on the San Diego freeway at a high rate of speed and he wasn't chasing anyone!

I've never been back to Van Nuys to see where the plant once stood as I had so many great memories of working there and couldn't bring myself to see the area today.

I would recommend that you should replace the spark plug wires as it may be the reason you are having a problem with the engine running at low rpm.  You have a nice 1969 Camaro!

I guess I can ask my friend who owned a 1968 Z28 and see if he can remember the tag number as it had a M21 transmission.

When it was possible, GM would buy from local suppliers as the cost to build vehicles at Van Nuys was higher than Norwood due to shipping parts to the West Coast.  We were still paying invoices to all suppliers at the Van Nuys Plant when the second generation Camaro/Firebird were being built and I was surprised to find that the Checker Motor Company built the frame rails.

The engine identification code for a 1969 Pontiac 400 manual transmission Ram Air III is "WQ," with a cylinder head casting code of "48."

When I bought my 1970 BOSS 302, the previous owner had installed a Stinger ignition system.  I have the specifications when the distributor was calibrated at Stinger in Midway City, CA back in the 1970s.  As I've searched for parts for the Stinger and haven't found anything to date, I bought a 289 HiPo distributor as a back-up.

Brian - Below is some information on Cormier Chevrolet:

I ordered my 1998 Z28 from Cormier and thought of getting one with the 1LE option, but the fleet manager talked me out of it as he thought it would take a long time for the Camaro to be built.  There was also only one other option available with the 1LE package, which was the trunk-mounted 10 CD player. - Mark

Danny - My friend's 1968 Z28 was BRG and I remember that you could see white over spray in the wiper area.  I believe the Z28 was built at Van Nuys as it came from Harry Mann Chevrolet in Los Angeles, but we never took notice of the trim tag. - Mark

General Discussion / Re: rev limiters
« on: June 28, 2021, 09:12:06 PM »
I didn't think that a 1969 Z28 single point distributor with stock components would rev much higher than 6500 rpm.  I had asked earlier about how high would a stock 1968 Z28 distributor rev as I believe it was transistorized and knew that my friend would shift his 1968 Z28 over 7000 rpm and thought it still had its original distributor.

There was a previous posting on CRG in 2020 about a Camaro that was sold on Hemmings that was built in Venezuela and the seller posted some documentation that may interest you:

I agree with cook_dw that I would go with painted headers as you can just touch them up after installation.  As for Hooker Super Competition headers, they are designed to maximize performance and you can have problems with ground clearance and the length of the collectors can make them difficult to install.
