mr396,

Is your tag original, service replacement, or reproduction?  Are the letters incused ( cut in ) or silk screened?

Originality / Correct posi tag for rear on '69

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find an original posi tag & plug for my 12-bolt rear.  Can anyone post an image of the correct
( original ) posi tag & plug combination for the 69 12-bolt rear?  I believe the originals had incused lettering
that was back filled ( with white ), while the newer ones seem to indicate a silk screened process being used.

I have also seen different fill plug styles as well.  Possibly with different size heads.  What is correct for my
Camaro?  If it matters, it is an early build ( 10-D-68 ).

These items show up on eBay from time to time, but I am hesitant to buy as I know only one is probably correct.

Here are the images of the NOS two-piece rotor I was referencing above:

What do you think about the finishes applied here ?

Originality / Correct finish for '69 rotors

Hey guys!

I recently found a set of quite pristine front two-piece rotors for my Camaro.  They were never turned and I took a very light
pass just to get them perfect.  Then, I put them on the steel abrader and cleaned them like new.  Question I have is over the
correct finish to be applied.

Should they be a natural cast color?  What about the wheel studs?  Were they black oxide, silver cad., etc.?  ???

I saw an NOS two-piece rotor on eBay recently, but I always question if the finish applied to service parts was the same as
that applied to production pieces.

Any thoughts or images you can share?

Thanks,
Steve

John,

I thought the exhaust heat caused the green/brown finish shortly after burn-in.

As an aside, I had Jerry MacNeish restore mine 4 years ago and they came back dull black.
I hope he did mine correctly...... ???

Even though these stripes are common to see on SS cars these days, you really need to consider putting it back on if you are restoring it.
They were definitely a sign of the times and of some iconic value to the car.

My Camaro originally came with a black vinyl top.  When I restored my car in 1980, I opted not to re-install the vinyl top.  So many cars from
that period had vinyl tops and I just wanted a change.  I regret that decision every time I look at my car.  BTW, the vinyl top is going back on......

Go for the stripes ! ;D

Ed,

Thanks for the in-depth analysis on this for me.

You know John,

That makes perfect sense to me.  I do know that there were a lot of different front coil springs
for the 1st gen. Camaros and things like A/C were figured into the selection for the correct springs.

Problem is that one member there posted a part number for such a spacer.  Would these have
been over the counter parts for sagging springs?  Would GM have offered such a thing back then?

Go over the yenko.net and see the topic under the general discussion ( pertains to Motion Camaro ).

Dave,

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not saying that this is wrong.  How can I?  It's Aaron's car & his money.  So it's his say.

I'm just saying that the Gardner chambered systems are the most expensive ( next to NOS ).  I'd be tempted to
sell my Gardner system and install a cheeper system, then add the cross-over pipe if so inclined.

........Spoke to one of the head honchos there from Dynacorn and he made no bones about how he felt it was ok to "rebody" a car. I told him flat out that in my opinion, transferring a VIN from an original Camaro to this Taiwanese clone would be unethical. He tried to offer a lame excuse about how this is just an extension of the restoration process..... BS.

Let's see --- A dynacorn management team member positioning the "OK to rebody" argument.  That's a stretch - huh? ::)

It's just all about --->

I'm somewhat surprised the CCR team's '67 didn't have the trim tag installed.  Their posturing on the episode I saw seemed
to indicate that it was OK to swap cowl & VIN tags.  I wonder if they got beat-up for that comment.

Hi everyone,

There is a topic on the SuperCar Registry that sparked a question for me.  I'm sure members here can elaborate.

Did 67 - 69 Camaro's with A/C have a horse-shoe shaped spacer under each front coil spring to raise the front end
up due to the increased weight of the A/C components?  If such a spacer was used, were they steel or rubber?
Does anyone have an image of one of these that they can post?  I'm forever amazed at what I pick up on these
forums. ;D

Aaron,

Let me get this straight.  You have a Gardner chambered system on your Camaro and you let someone drill a pair of 2" holes
to weld in a cross-over pipe?  That's a gutsy call on your part.  The systems aren't cheep!  I'm wondering what Eric Gardner
would say about the addition of this cross-over, in terms of functionality.  He's a real stickler for originality, so he may not be
open to discuss it.  However, I would very much like to know what he has to say about the effectiveness of this approach. ???

Lastly, how is the cross-over positioned in relation to ground clearance or clearance to the drivetrain?

Steve

i have a smog system, but its non functional... i pluged the tubes and gutted the pump..
incidentally, I added a crossover over the weekend.

and it was 100% the correct decision I made... it eliminated the untolerable crackle or raspiness that the system had.... it is still loud, but the best sounding system i've ever heard.... when you get on it, it crackles like it should, but under part throttle and routine driving, it isn't uncontrollable like it was prior to the crossover tube.

Aaron

Aaron,

Can you post some pictures of the modified exhaust system with the inclusion of the crodd-over pipe?
I'd like to see exactly what you did on your sustem.
