General Discussion / Re: Camaro Rear End Axle housing bumper

There were two types of production rubber snubber, so your description of a rectangular hole with a hole each side suggests that either type (whatever you can find reproduction) should fit. The thread in the link above has pictures that may clarify, like Hans' picture, second last post.
Not going to disagree with previous advice, but to my way of thinking, if GM put a snubber there from the factory to prevent the rear end bottoming out, and yours is missing, I think an occasional bottoming out is to be expected, not necessarily a sign the springs are sagging.
But the AIM has ride height dimensions, so you could check that way if the car sits too low.

Could be Bentley, I just assumed that the date stamps would roll over after midnight, but maybe it was at the shift change from night to day. Anyone know if Flint Engine assembly ran 7 days, night and day?

That's plausible Bryon, although John stated previously that CEs were done on weekends due to different handling requirements on the engine line, and Jan 13 1969 was a Monday.
Nevertheless, I don't quite understand Kurt's description above about CE blocks being inventoried at the engine plants, but based on the casting dates and presumed assembly dates of these particular two small blocks, would that mean that some bare castings were set aside from regular production, and then machined/fitted as assemblies in scheduled batches?

This thread update reminded me that I did previously say that I'd check the oil pan rail of my own CE block, which I did do; I found some stamped numbers - but overlooked posting them. So here goes, this is what I found (picture quality not the greatest, taken on iphone rather than proper camera).
My 3956618 block, cast A 9 9, has the exact same stamp on the oil pan rail as the 3932386 block, cast J 12 8, with only five digits separating the Flint 'CE' sequence numbers (CE9A24288 versus CE9A24283).
I'm interested in the fact that both blocks also have what looks like '01 13' stamped out, underneath the '0I 9 V', plus mine also has an angled 'F' beneath this, and a misaligned '12 2' stamped over by the oil filter. Any ideas?

HBC price seems to be $1775 (including their $25 surcharge for size/weight).
Anyone know if these, or Larry C's version, work with power steering and/or stock back drive linkage?

I recall one water pump rebuilder that stated there was a shortage of 692 casting number small block pumps for Flint engine assembly in a brief period of 69MY production, and that 170 castings were shipped in from Tonawanda to make up for it. Never heard of that being verifiable since, but doesn't mean it's impossible.

Chick, thank you once again - excellent sleuthing, and much appreciated. I'll clean up and reuse my existing cap then.
Had no idea that the 'R' cap is apparently correct for 68 (apart from very early cars as noted above) as well as 69 model years....

I asked a question about the assembly plant origin versus the final destination here a while ago (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=13592), didn't find an answer but several members have cars that didn't originate at the plant nearest their location too.

Thanks for confirming those details Steve; pity they're no longer able to source that part, but as Chick points out, the AMD version is very close with a minor tweak.
