Restoration / Re: U69 AM/FM radio firewall ground strap location
« on: March 08, 2017, 09:23:41 AM »
I believe the body to engine ground strap locations are the same for U63 and U69. I can measure the passenger side position on mine (U63, LOS car) on the weekend if nobody else confirms prior.

The hole for the clock or the tach was die-pierced in a hydrauiic fixture in the assembly plant, on the dash cluster subassembly line.
John, why does the AIM show the cutout dimensions in the instrument carrier (U35/A1 view A) if a fixture was used - or did a worker still have to be involved to position it correctly?

I downloaded that and looks like it needs unzipped?
Yes, download and unzip it and you can decode tags all day long.

Easy to download the CRG decoder and do it yourself!

Thanks Darrell, that's a better picture.
I have kept reference pictures of the pad stamps where the poster included them, but haven't linked to them in the spreadsheet yet, until I figure out how to host and share it. Ideally it would be accessible for members to add their own data, but there would have to be some editing limitations to maintain the data......
There is a filter on each column, you can see the drop-downs in the header row on that screenshot.

Great news, very glad to know you're on the mend and back at home John - as well as continuing to contribute here!

Sorry Darrell, meant I couldn't make out the full pad stamp in your photo.

Here's the data so far; I had to add a zero to the month to make the date code sort sequentially. I don't have a google account, but if anyone has and would be happy to upload the excel version to the cloud, please let me know. May need to scroll across to see the full image.

PS I have to search through other threads on CRG and other forums to pull more data to add in, so that spreadsheet will no doubt grow.

Darrell are you able to confirm the pad stamp on the block you posted pics of just above, the one ending '921'?

Restoration / Re: Paint Color Question

Mine is silver too, but can't be sure of the original finish. The keys were missing when I bought the car, so I had to reach through the trunk from the back seat and unbolt the catch plate with a long extension bit to open the trunk lid. Can't remember where it is now, must be a very safe place!
And as 'luck' would have it, the previous owner called me 2 days later to say he'd found the car keys hanging on a nail in his shop......

That story sounds very familiar, wasn't there a feature on it in MCR a while ago? I'll have to dig my old copies out.....

I haven't used them, but several people I know have got CHQ's rocker mouldings and said they fit well and are very reasonably priced compared to NOS GM.

OK seeing as I started this particular discussion, I will put my hand up to go through this thread and put all the data so far into a spreadsheet. Will aim for this weekend, can't do much outside or in the garage anyway, as it's been so hot; last weekend the mercury went over 110F here and so inside jobs took priority  8).

I assume the 2-letter code denotes the valve and hose as an assembly, but were the differences in the check valve, the vacuum hose, or both?

That's certainly a possibility.
Terry, can you clarify how often this happens, as 'from time to time' sounded occasional rather than regular to me. Has the car been restored in the past (perhaps by a previous owner - minor parts such as rubber bump stops seem to be overlooked in quite a few restorations) and are the other rubber items on the car in good condition, or cracked/dry rotted, which could lead to them falling off?
