I have seen a couple references that the Camaro's wheel is gray. But, it seems that the Firebirds are tan, according to the First Gen Firebird site.
Did they really go to the trouble of installing different color spares in the Camaro and Firebird? Seems like this would be one of those universal parts for both cars.
I have a 68 Firebird and I am trying to determine if it should be gray or tan.

Do you have the part number for the Firebird space-saver spare tire? If it's the same as the Camaro space-saver, it was the same color. The plant didn't paint the space-saver wheel and mount the tire; it came as a complete assembly from the supplier, and the plant just took it out of the rack and mounted it in the trunk.

John, is the Space-Saver rim gray on one side and light yellow on the other?

I don't know - never paid any attention to them 40 years ago.

Im pretty sure mine is original and it is the same shade of gray on both sides. The same shade of gray that you see on the spiral shocks etc.
