Title: 1967 Restoration Paint Job
Post by: Hec on July 06, 2009, 03:59:45 PM
I am considering a frame-off restoration for a 1967 SS/RS Camaro 350. I have been quoted $15K for the paint job. Is this reasonable? I was shocked at the cost. Total quote for the restoration is about $40K - including the paint job.

It doesn't surprise me that alot of the cost is paint as it takes a lot of time to get a very nice finish. blocking, buffing etc. 40,000 is not unusual if you are not doing any work yourself and you have most of the parts. Really it comes down to the bottom line. Look at thier other cars. I would expect a show quality #1 finish for the price. I always recommend getting 3 quotes to compare and make sure you are comefortable with working with the group you select as well.

How much body work needs to be done?
What color are you painting the car?
Is the shop a collison repair facility or a resto shop of other collectible cars?
Is the shop going to completely disassemble your car place the body on a rotissiore?
Will you replace all the interior, rebuild the motor, tranny, replace the entire chasis components?

There is a lot of work to a frame off restoration

Thanks for the input from Oregonjam.

In reply to sixt9x33rs:
The body is in great shape, very minor rust, so not much body work is needed.
The color is Royal Plum, the original.
The shop is a restoration shop specializing in Corvettes, but they sub the paint out.
This will be a frame off restoration and the panels will be shipped to the paint shop.
The interior does not need replacing, but some detail work is needed. The motor will be overhauled, new transmission with proper numbers has been acquired. Most components on the car are functional including hidden headlights.
I am the original owner. The care was customed ordered in 1967.
I am not a restoration expert.

Thanks for the input.
