I have a 01C 67rs It had a 10 bolt that broke on me back in 88. I got a 12 bolt from a Friends dad at the time for $200.00 it was a 12 posi with 331s He said it was from a 68 Z how he knew that I don't know must of knew the car. I looked up the numbers on pass tube as follows
BS 1112G2=31 12 POSI NOVEMBER 12 G=DETROIT AXLE 2 ND SHIFT. I have a letter E and a letter H stamped below the other number but they are all sideways and goofy? what gives with that? I have attached a pic what does it mean guy goofing around on the Line maybe.
-
any guess I don't have any idea myself??
-
If it is from a 68 Camaro it would decode as follows:
BS= Posi 3.31:1
11=November
12=12th Day
G= Detroit Gear & Axle
2=2nd Shift
E=Eaton Positraction Differential
No idea on the H.
-
Hi why is the E and the H all whacked out is this normal? is anyone Else's like this one?
-
The E is fine and very typical. No idea what the H was for.
-
Just an FYI My J78 (Oct 7 1968) built 3.08 non posi has the H on the axle as well. My #'s are BL 1009G2 with H under that.
Kurt, does this " H " maybe give you another anomaly to be alert too? Is it build date related maybe? If you track enough of them, maybe the "H" will turn out to mean something down the road.

Could be an inspection stamp. H = Harold?? :)
-
Might the H stamp possibly be from a rebuilder to identify their work in case it comes back.
-
My axle is original to the car so no rebuilder could have gotten ahold of it.
-
How many rears with H? what years? What build locations? what type of car(options) ss rs zs copos ? Strat a poll?
-
anyone else with an H ??
