I am thinking about purchasing a 69 camaro with the X44 code. The car is a V8 car, 12 bolt rear end, ps, pdb, and has all the SS trim. One website says it can be an SS car and another website says no way. Can anyone help me with the correct information?

Spike,
Read THIS (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes). It'll answer your question.

You really need to get educated on the date stamps to see what is original and what is not before you buy.

Can't be an SS, but you do need to educate yourself. Check the left side rear frame rail for a tail pipe adapter plate welded to the frame rail. Good photo of this in our 1969 Camaro fact book, page 75. You also need to check the component dates on the rear axle, and other items. Is it an open rear, BE rear, BR, BL, BU, BV, etc. Castings date?? Firewall piercings are very important too.
We have found that many of our customers do not take the time to educate themselves before spending large sums of money on a Camaro.
