Title: 1968 L78 Fuel Pump
Post by: BarryNyc on March 29, 2025, 12:24:30 AM
Hi All,

Can anyone tell me the correct fuel pump for my 1968 L78?   Build is Sept, manual transmission if that makes a difference.   I have seen 40470 and I have also seen 40727 listed.   Also the GM part number would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Sept of 1967 used a 40568 on all 396 engines. The 40470 was used in 1967 model year 396 375hp. In or about Aug 1968 the 40568 was used. The first 40727 I have recorded is Oct 1969....Joe

Hi!

I am trying to learn this and get the correct pump, so any further clarification would be helpful!   In some quick research, the 40568 you mentioned was only used on small block Corvettes.   And, I was under the impression that not all 396 used the same one.   The L78 396/375 one had a longer tongue lever and one website said if you used a different 396 carb the lever would break.
