I have a set of XT 14x7 steels wheels not original to my 69 SS. Would they have been the body color or black?
-
Body colour if using poverty caps. Black if you're using full wheel covers....Joe

Kelly can you tell me the date on the wheels? Lost 2 of mines in early 70’s to numerous wheel an tire changes. My 3 is dated K-1-9, 1-29-69 (1) and 1-31-69 (2) for my 02D build SS 396 L78. Thanks

They are in my storage location I will check the dates whenever I can go by there. They were on a non SS 69 convertible I used to have and I never even looked at them until recently when I found out they would be correct for my l78 car.

You guys got my curiosity up, I went and looked at the XT wheels and they are stamped K18 12 near the valve stem. I take it that means December 1968. If so my L78 is 12A car. All 4 are the same, painted black. I might should hang on to these. My JM papers say the car would have had rally’s or XT,s.

Looking at the CRG report, the 12 could be the day not the month but I did not see a number before the 12.
-
Kelly, if I understand correctly if your XT’s are all K-1-8 then that tells me yes that is Kelsey Hayes- Chevrolet(1)- 1968(8) and the 12 could for sure be Dec 68’ as the month. Now I will have to go look at my dates to see if my 1’s or on the left side of the stem and the 29 is on the right side of stem. I know there should be a wheels section on here(CRG), lol, maybe some more seasoned member here can steer you to this section. I am rather new to this also, but an aged person with a longtime ownership of my L78. Merry Christmas!

Guys I actually removed the valve stems and there is a 9 or part of one next to the valve stem hole. The rubber valve stems had it mostly covered so my wheels are actually 9-12 of 1968. My car is 12A so the wheels almost 3 months prior to the car. Kind of close for a set I took of another car I had. GM must have either punched the holes after dating or gang stamped across them. A couple of the wheels part of the 9 is in the hole.

GM didn't stamp the wheels - K-H did. ;) And they didn't worry about stamping over the hole...

Kelly I know this is not a good picture to try and pull up numbers placement, but I think you can see the K-1-9 and the 1 left side of stem and the 30 on right of stem. And of course the XT.
