Title: Correct Engine Lift Bracket Bolts - 1968 Camaro Coupe 327/210 SB
Post by: gwp4 on August 12, 2024, 02:05:43 AM
Hi First Gen Camaro Experts -

After getting dinged in consourse level judging, I'm trying to correct some mistakes and am looking for the correct engine lift bracket bolts.  I've purchased two correct engine lift brackets (painted Chevy orange), but am now in search of the correct bolts.  My car is a 1968 Camaro base model coupe small block 327 210 hp.  In doing some research, it seems that the intake manifold bolts might be GM part 9418823 dark phosphate with the "TR" head marking.  Not sure if these would be the same as the engine lift bracket bolts though.  However, based on the judging manual, "the mounting bolts for the cast iron small block intakes are Grade 5 bolts with no washers with "typical markings are A, C, RSC, and M."  Additionally, according to the manual, "Big block lift hook bolts do not have a shoulder and have a TR marking."  Welcome comment/guidance on what should be correct engine lift bracket bolt (part number and head marking) that the judges would accept.  Many thanks in advance.  gwp4.

Those brackets & the bolts were installed at the engine plant & all painted at the same time as the rest of the engine. Tonawanda & Flint may have used different bolts but try to remember that the engine plants went through possibly thousands of bolts in a day & could've been different from time to time. The only way to be close to positive on what bolt was used is to find a virgin engine from that the same engine plant, built on the same day & document it.....Joe

Bolts were commodity parts with multiple suppliers.
