Title: 1967 Rearview Mirror -- Original Mirror became wobbly
Post by: 67L48 on August 12, 2022, 02:30:52 PM
I have done ZERO to diagnose or try to repair, so this could be an extremely silly proposition and question.

But, a while ago, my rearview mirror suddenly lost its friction.  It's all wobbly and just sags down and won't stay in place anymore -- gravity won the battle.  It's the original chrome-backed factory rear view mirror.

Can I restore the grip?  Is there a set-screw I can turn, a bushing to replace, or is it just a worn out part now?

Thanks.

Easy enough to fix on a ‘69.  Hope it’s similar for ‘67.

Look on the passenger side of the mirror and tighten this screw.

You beat me to it Rich. Is that a counterweight hanging off the mirror? 🧐🧐

No - just the strings that hold my blue “Hot August Nights” fuzzy dice.

For anyone working on an interior rear-view mirror that finds tightening the screw does not provide for sufficient clamping force the next troubleshooting step is to examine the screw and wave washer. Replacements are available from AMK

Just wanted to thank those who chimed in.  I lived with a wobbly mirror for years.  Took 2 seconds to fix.  This is the equivalent of the old:  my computer is acting funny, any help?  Sure, did you try restarting it?  Oh, no ... yep, it works great after the power cycle.

I'm a pretty hands-on guy mechanically (no so much on engines, carbs, etc.), so it's really embarrassing that I never thought to examine the passenger side of the mirror.
