Title: 1968 Z/28 on BAT
Post by: dannystarr on December 12, 2021, 07:20:44 PM
I would be real curious to see if this is a legit front pad stamping. It is like a roller coaster. AND it looks like the production stamp is also a little crooked. Replacement Trans, now has M22. I blew up the picture some to get better visual on stamp and possible broaching. Second pic not great.

I am not sure about the tire sticker, waffling either way on it.

I have photos of this car from 2016.  No go.  Pad, trans & diff are restamps & pop is fake too.  Bryon, you might remember we discussed this car back then (2016)..

I spent a while bouncing back and forth on glove box tire stickers from mine to theirs. I have a few originals, and all of them are way different than the one in the ad. NO glue shrinking on the edges either. Cause it's new. Funny how it's conveniently stained. ... Danny

Just looked again, and there is some shrinking on the right. But my friend put repro stickers on his car 25 years ago. So NOW even they are starting to show glue at the edges. ... Danny

I posted about this car yesterday on Yenko, and I agree. Darrell caught it years before me. 🙂

There are some odd stampings in 68 that are original, but this doesn’t seem to be one of them.

POP grew the selling dealers info from '16 till now and has aged '50 years in only 5yrs..   ;)

Also tire sticker is a repo as it has the wrong code.  AG isnt correct for 68 Z.

Pad is a restamp. Tire stickers are not a good way to determine authenticity. They have been repopping those almost 40 years now. Its also easy enough to take a glovebox door and swap it out. You also cant use a May stamping and compare it to a December stamping. Things changed and lots of anomalies happened along the way.

Seller stated the decal is pictured in Jerry's book. Thats the only reference I have  seen to AG wheels on a camaro. Were they used?

For 68 Z's was there a transition period from AG to AY, My notes are Dec-Jan -ish?

I think, The Letter code on the Decal is merely the Broadcast code for the Decal not correlated to Wheel rim stamping codes (i.e. DF)
