Title: Trans missing suffix stamp - orphan?
Post by: joe1969chevy on December 01, 2020, 04:51:30 PM
I think I have a numbers matching car but it was brought to my attention that my transmission does not have the suffix stamped after the date. I have a 4th week of November 1968 built car (car being a 1969) and the transmission does have the VIN stamped on it. It doesn’t look like a restamp but it should have an “A” after the P9S16. Do I have an orphan?

The suffix wasn't added to the transmission until 10/21/68, less than 4 weeks earlier, so maybe the suffix got missed on this one?

Have you had the trans out of the car to determine the series (20,21,22 ?). Input should give you the clue -
