Anyone have any experience with an engine that has no engine pad VIN stamp? We're engines produced with only the engine VIN stamped in the alternate location adjacent to the oil filter in 1969?
Appreciate the experience of the group in helping me out.

The Norwood plant changed the partial VIN stamping location approximately Jan 69 from the pad to down near the oil filter.
They were not always stamped very well and can be almost impossible to read many times. My car is also an 07A car with the original engine and I can barely make out the last three digits of the VIN in the rough cast area of the block.

My car was built a little under 2000 cars after yours. My NCRS GM official production date is July 10th.
Do you have any pictures of your car that you can post? Would love to see it.

Saw this car on the net 2 yrs ago when I was looking to buy. The seller stated she wasn't sure if the engine was #s matching, but there was a 50/50 chance it was. She was asking around $50 K. Emailed back, was not paying that price for a car that MAYBE #s matching. Never heard back. She also has a Chevelle that has the same paint scheme.

You requested help, here's my take on it:
wrong shifter
shabby headliner
headers, muffler shop exhaust system, no AIR system
incorrect rear springs
aftermarket rear axle cover
fuel tank damaged
non-style trim tail lamps
grille & bezels should be silver
incorrect package tray
repro booster
302 air cleaner extension missing
other incorrect engine bay items
I don't agree that the stripes should be black.
Conclusion: For $36,000 I'd go look at it. There is a good chance it has the OE drivetrain and initial indications are it wasn't that rusted. Paint & chrome are driver quality, interior looks decent. You could enjoy it as-is and improve it over time. I have seen worse sell for more.

Inspection and appraisal is scheduled. Will complete decode of drivetrain with applicable casting #'s.

Decoding the numbers doesn't really count. You need to get pics of the engine, trans, and axle *stampings* and let's see if they are originals.

Inspection and appraisal will include documenting and photos of the following:
Engine- forward stamp, rear engine cast #, rear engine GM date code, partial VIN by oil filter,
intake manifold #, carb #, additional general photos.
Transmission- casting #, stamp area, date and status markers.
Rear End- casting #, casting date, axle stamp.
Cowl Tag-photo
Appreciate guidance regarding any additional identification #'s/stamp areas or photo areas that should be taken? Inspection will include detailed photos of body, interior, drivetrain and under carriage with car both on/off a lift.
Appreciate anyone sharing suggestions based on previous experience and knowledge.

If the engine pad is painted, it will have to be stripped. Don't use anything abrasive; sometimes tape will pull paint off.

Paint is removed from stamp area and should be able to get a good picture. Yep, car is not advertised now it's pending sale until the inspection/appraisal/decode is completed.
