For some reason it sticks in my head that GM stopped putting the stainless trim around the front parking lights on the RS at some point during production.
Is there a time frame for this? Or is my memory fuzzy.
Thanks
Larry

Nevermind, found it.
Thanks

Would you mind sharing the info you found? My parking lights do not have the rings and I'm thinking they should. 11A LOS build
Thanks
Tim

11A probably would.
I can't remember who it was, it was either William or James that clarified it. At some point in late December or Early January the chrome trim ring went away. So I'm going to make sure my 12D car has them.
Another interesting piece of info, when the parking lights have trim rings, the outside parameter of the lens is painted argent silver.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if LOS did anything different with the trim? Mine probably have been replaced in it's lifetime.
-
I'd link it for you if I can figure out how, lol. I'll keep trying.

My 01C Z28 RS built at Van Nuys did not have the trim rings.
-
There's a thread somewhere on here that discusses specifically when/why the SS trim ring on the parking lights were eliminated... 2-3 yrs ago as I recall... maybe a JohnZ posting?
-
You're right on Gary. I've found it but can't link it.

I remember my previous SS/RS that I had years ago had the trim rings (Norwood 10C build). Does anyone have a photo of an original with the SS trim and argent silver on the lens?

I think it was William's post here that I recall.. a change in Jan '69...

but there are some 'exceptions' to the rule, including JohnZ's non-RS Z33...

Here's my post from the previous discussion:
The reference to "bright accented parking lamps" was deleted as of the January 2, 1969 rev to the US dealer ordering info. Still there for Canada but maybe just an oversight.
Depends on how the revision was managed. Parking lamps were received at the plants as an assembly. That means there was finished goods inventory at each plant, in transit, and at the source. The source also had RS lenses in process. Materials decides on the disposition of all of it. They may have used up on hand inventory and diverted the remainder to service stock. Or they may have decided to consume all of it in production. One day they are building RS cars with standard lamps, next day a shipment of RS lamps arrives and they use those. Like the 68/69 spoilers, either could have been used for a period of time. Tough to reverse-engineer.

Thanks all for the great info!

There ya go, these guys are great. Thanks for linking that stuff for me.

Larry this might help,I can't tell for sure if the trim rings are there. This picture was taken in March 1969 by the original owner. Car is early Los 09D 68.

Here is a shot I took in 2009, as you can see no rings. The original picture shows bumper guards, and spoiler the head light squirters are gone as well. May have been in a front end hit? Or the rings were not there from the beginning.
