This car looks to be a good example. Reserve is met....

Maybe I'm just being a little critical of this car, but owner states.... Survivor Quality, Unrestored car, but two repaints, both quarters replaced, rear end replaced, and hood replaced?

Agreed. Seems like the spoilers were added as well ( no D80 on tag). Plus a bunch of the interior was replaced. Seems like more of the car has been restored than not. Engine compartment looks mostly original, less the smog pump and added headers. Plus they added the quarter trim at one point. Looks like a good deal for $40k though

Cowl tag has d 80 on it.

Dusk Blue with dark blue interior is a personal favorite, looks great. Shame somebody added the Z21 brightwork (except the tail light bezels). Interested to see comments on the block stamps.

Sorry I missed it at first glance... :)

I did not say the car is without flaws just seems to be a nice example. Driveline seems to be original....like to hear people weigh in on the block stamp. I personally like that no one added a console and gauges. I think a center fuel gauge is cool. I agree too bad someone added the brightwork. Not perfect but for $40K could make a good car if the body is not a mess.
Not my car and I have no connection just wanted to share

I agree with sixt9x33rs ; it DOES seem to be a very nice example for a 45 yr old z28 which hasn't been restored (although one could say that the previous repaints, panel replacements, interior replacements could 'constitute' a prior restoration). It seems to me to be a pretty well kept '69 z28 that has obviously been used pretty regularly thru that time (also might have been stored for a period with it's mileage of 79K). The block stamp looks good to me; there was nothing stated about any prior engine rebuilds, so it's possible that the engine has not been removed from the car previously. The trans stamp was too blurry for my old eyes to discern clearly, and the poster says that the rear end has been replaced (12 bolt 4.88:1 rear).. the original (military) owner probably did a bit of street or drag racing (as most of us did back then). Overall, I'd say it would be a good buy for someone who wants a *mostly factory original* '69 z28 without paying the restored prices... Buy it.. drive it.. preserve it.. and enjoy it.. :)
If it's met reserve, someone is going to buy it... there have been 39 prior bids, so you only have to hope you can outbid the others who want it and get it at a reasonable price... (whatever that is these days), but I don't think it's very easy to find such cars these days...
Oh.. and I DO love the color.. I haven't seen one this color combo in a long while...

Survivor is such a wide open term now that it's a wash. You just have to take it, analyze it, and make your own assumptions and decisions. I by no means would call this a survivor. Yes it is still HERE, but it's had some MAJOR body repair and panel replacement. Not to mention a couple paint jobs. Along with other changes along the way. I would rather pay 10K less and have the original paint and rot to see it myself. Then I get my own visual and make the repairs. Who knows what else is incorrect. We all know that just a carb, smog setup, Alternator, and a distributor can set ya back 6 thousand dollars! Even if I had the money I would pass... Just my 2 or 3 cents.. Danny

Auction was ended due to an error in the listing.
Gary and I agree, both being the owner of several old cars it is hard to find one that APPEARS to not had been abused over the years regardless of a few repaints and quarter panel replacement. With the original drivetrain still intact is a HUGE (if it is in fact) plus for a Z28 since when new Chevrolet bragged how these were high winders. If someone could pick this car up in the high $30's to low $40's (thousands) seems like a good price for someone to have fun given the recent run up in price.

So what's the % of Z's with their original drive train? I heard opinions in the 10% range. If that's true, there aren't that many out there to pick from.
-
Are we talking "Percentage with MO/DZ on their blocks"? or "% with factory original engine/drivetrain" ??
There's gotta be a big difference in those two percentages.. :)
-
I think it would be interesting to know the percentage of all first gen Camaros with their original drivetrain. With big blocks getting swapped out, and the numerous changes guys made, including blowing up transmissions, and rear end swaps. Maybe another poll is in order ??

;) ditto.

If the owner tells us his car has original drivetrain and is missing the original 12 bolt rear end..... then it's not original drivetrain car. The rear end is part of the drivetrain right?

You are right. I forgot about the statement about the rear end being replaced. I wonder if the rear gear is just replaced or if the entire rear end was replaced? If I had time I would go check this car out, but just a little too far and not a serious buyer.

Car is relisted on e bay, owner said "bidder that tripped his reserve cancelled the bid". Look at the bidding, I'd guess some shill bidding is going on, not uncommon on ebay.

I love Dusk over Dark Blue... I missed a project which was equipped very similarly a few years ago, someone on the boards here bought it.
If it was quartered correctly 40k is a fair price for a nice combo, I agree it was probably raced given the 4.88's and extra U bolts on the axle plates.
Biggest thing I see is about the interior is the reproduction door panels.
The Alternator is probably wrong, if the distributor and carb are right BONUS!
