Title: Touch up paint
Post by: jack on October 20, 2014, 12:13:59 AM
Hi All

Where can I purchase touch up paint to fix some chips?

I have a phantom Green code 57 1969 SS Convertible.

Thanks

Is the paint original?
If not then most likely it will not match a "factory pack" touch up kit.
I had factory pack lacquer in Warbonnet Yellow for a 71 vette which matched dead on... the mixed lucite didn't match, going over to enamel it wan't even close.

No it not the original paint.

Got 2 chips and wanted to protect it from future rust.

Where can I get and  try a factory pack?

Thanks

The factory pack for your paint might be a 'phantom, but I'd bet you mean 'fathom green' for your paint color?  :)

You can drive your car to a local paint shop.  Go to the one who sold the paint for the repaint if you know it.   Otherwise, I'd suggest a PPG dealer (because that's my fav brand). :)     They can take a reading off a nice clean spot on your paint, and mix up a small batch of paint for you and either put it in a spray can, or provide it in a small can for use with a tiny brush.  My supplier will mix as little as 2 oz, which typically fills a typical spray can (if that's what you want/desire), but for small chips, using a toothpick or a tiny tip brush will work best IMO.

When I reinstalled the factory SS hood on my Rally Green 69 we did the computer gun thing and it did not match the laquer color. The guy was pretty sharp so all we did was try another brand of paint with all the same numbers and it was a perfect match. The first try was Dupont Croma and the match was Standox.
